Wexford Youths 2-1 Longford Town

Wexford Youths got their first win of the season when they beat Longford Town 2-1 at Ferrycarrig Park this evening.

Wexford got off to a fantastic start when they took the lead in the fourth minute.

Conor Sinnott picked the ball up on the right hand side, cut inside Brian McCarthy and unleashed a rasping shot on his left foot which goalkeeper Brendan Murphy fumbled to allow Gavin Doyle to slot home from five yards.

The Youths were in front at the break, but started the second half poorly, when McCarthy equalised for Town in the 54th minute.

However, the game changed in the space of one minute when David Miller netted the winner for the Youths, capitalising on a quick free down the right and to sneak a tight shot beyond the keeper on the near post.

Town defender Jim Sheridan was sent off for dissent as the visitors challenged the validity of the quick free-kick.
