Hegarty to stay on with reduced budget

Paul Hegarty has confirmed that he is staying on as manager of League of Ireland First Division side Finn Harps.

However, the club's acting chairman James Rodgers has stepped down after there was a split in the board when it met to debate a budget for the 2009 season.

It is understood that Hegarty's weekly budget for players will be slashed to around €5,000 a week, compared with over €12,000 last year.

Only two players are currently contracted to the club for next season, Conor Gethins and Jonathan Minnock.

Harps were relegated from the Premier Division at the end of last season, a year after Hegarty had guided them to promotion.

Earlier this year, the Ballybofey-based club was forced to cut its wage bill by 50% due to falling gates and cash-flow difficulties.
