Sporting Fingal 3-1 Waterford United

Sporting Fingal boosted their title hopes when a first half blitz of goals gave them victory over second-placed Waterford United at Morton Stadium.

The home side went ahead against the run of play through a Colm James penalty on 34 minutes which was swiftly followed by Paul Byrne's neat finish two minutes later.

Fiachra McArdle netted a third a minute before the interval but the visitors hit back within two minutes of the restart with Darren Warren's header.

Substitute Willie-John Kiely compounded the Blues' woes by seeing his 79th minute penalty easily saved by Brendan Clarke.

Sporting Fingal: Clarke; Gannon, Ferguson, Philip Byrne, Frost; C. Byrne, P. Caffrey (Crawford 80), James, McArdle (Kelly 89); Corcoran (Hynes 90), Paul Byrne.

Waterford United: Holden; Fitzgerald (McCarthy 46), Hayes (Mulcahy 81), Browne, Clarke; Fitzgerald, Dunphy (Kiely 64), Warren, Waters; Bermingham, Sullivan.
