Bohemians 2-1 Bray Wanderers

They're still on track to win the title, but the celebrations at Bohemians will have to wait a week after events elsewhere didn't quite go their way.

Bohs did all they had to do, beating a spirited Bray side 2-1 thanks to first half goals from Glen Crowe and Jason McGuinness.

Bray did pull one back through captain Ray Kenny, but with Daryl Robson being sent off it was too tall an order for the Wicklow side.

The Gypsies made one change from the side that overcame bitter rivals Shamrock Rovers last weekend with Mindaugas Kalonas coming in for Anto Murphy on the right wing.

And the Lithuanian international was joined on the pitch by his Irish equivalent Jason Byrne after just six minutes when the Dubliner replaced the injured Neale Fenn.

Bray, for whom Alan Cawley replaced Derek Pender, got off to a lively start, Ger Rowe charging down Brian Murphy's kick, the 'keeper scrambling back to clear the danger.

If Bohs fans were worried they should know better by now, as after 17 minutes ace poacher Glen Crowe was at it again.

Murphy launched a kick out forward and there appeared little danger when Ray Kenny cushioned a header towards Alan Gough.

But the pass lacked power and Bohs' greatest goalscorer nipped in ahead of the goalkeeper and deftly beat him with his left foot.

With one hand on the title, the home team were warming to their task and when Kalonas's excellent pass set Byrne free, but the striker's first touch let him down and Gough saved at his feet.

Byrne did chase the loose ball and fed Crowe, but the veteran stopper was once again on hand to clear the danger.

Byrne must have been wondering if he was destined not to score against his old team when Kalonas stole down the right wing and centred. Kevin Doherty's weak clearance fell at the strikers feet only for Doherty to block his shot and Gough to save his rebound.

The away side almost got out of jail on the stroke of half time when Gough spared Daryl Kavanagh's blushes, diverting his clearance wide.

However, from the resultant corner Byrne found Jason McGuinness in full flight and his powerful header flew home to wrap things up.

Bohs took their foot off the pedal in the second half and they very nearly paid the price. Ray Kenny tapped home from close range after Phillip Knight had hooked Alan Cawley's free kick goalward to narrow the gap.

And disaster nearly struck when McGuinness almost turned Kavanagh's effort into his own goal on the 73rd minute.

That was as close as they came and Daryl Robson's dismissal with ten minutes to go took the wind out of their sails.
