Finn Harps the latest club to cut wages
Wednesday, 1 October 2008 16:44Finn Harps today sent out an SOS to fans after the club revealed a cash crisis that has forced a cut in wages.
The Donegal outfit has confirmed that 'due to the present financial climate a number of adjustments have had to be made which have resulted in all staff at Finn Park having to take a adjustment in wages.'
It is understood that the players have been asked to accept a 50% reduction in wages until the end of the season.
The players are hoping that the shortfall will be made up before the season ends.
However, the club runs the risk of having points deducted or even being relegated if it fails to adhere to the strict new league rules regarding club finances.
In a statement, the club called on supporters to come in number for the final three league games, against St Patrick's Athletic this Friday, and then against Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers.
They also wants a big turnout for this Saturday's challenge game between a Finn Harps old boys side against a Liverpool Legends XI.
The club statement continued: 'The steps taken are in the best interest of Finn Harps short and long term. The immediate aim is to secure our status in the Premier Division for the coming season and all at the club are working towards that goal.'
It added that if the public support the club in the remaining games 'the effects of any adjustment can be minimised on all concerned if not eliminated'.
Harps are currently seven points clear of the relegation zone with six matches remaining, and appear to be on course to stay in the top flight.
