Derry City 0-0 Cork City (Derry win 5-3 on pens)

It's been a successful week for Stephen Kenny's Derry City, having not only won the League Cup but also progressed to the last four of the FAI Ford Cup following a tense night at a wet Brandywell.

And with Galway boss Jeff Kenna paying particular attention from the stands, the Tribesmen will have to pull out all the stops when facing a confident Foyleside outfit.

Cork striker Denis Behan had his spot-kick saved by keeper Gerard Doherty as Derry were successful with all five penalties.

The result after 90 minutes was a fair reflection of the play, with both defences well on top.

The Candystripes move on to Terryland Park in a determined frame of mind having got through this particularly tough replay.

Neither keeper was stretched during that period with both sides failing to make inroads when in the final third of the park.

Derry's Kevin Deery had a low shot easily saved by Mick Devine in the 13th minute, while Cork's Darren Murphy lashed a shot high over the crossbar eight minutes before the interval.

After the break, it was more of the same with scoring chances at a premium.

Denis Behan drove a shot into the side netting in the 57th minute, while Derry replied with a long-range effort from Eddie McCallion which was saved by Devine.

The best chance of the game at that point fell to Cork. In the 66th minute Behan's deft touch sent Liam Kearney clear, but the diminutive striker's shot from just inside the penalty area was superbly parried by Doherty.

One minute later, Derry created a glorious chance when Gareth McGlynn played Sammy Morrow through and Devine did particularly well to divert the effort over his crossbar.

Ten minutes from full-time, Niall McGinn sent substitute Mark Farren scampering forward and his cross was hammered into the body of Cork defender Dan Murray as the home side seemed certain to score.

In the 98th minute Cork could have stolen it when Joe Gamble sent Behan clear but Doherty raced off his line to parry the effort and Derry's blushes had been spared.

Derry substitute Thomas Stewart forced Devine into a fine save in the 108th minute after Farren had robbed Murray of possession in a dangerous area.
