Shelbourne 0-0 Waterford United
Monday, 22 September 2008Dundalk were the main beneficiaries as Shelbourne and Waterford United played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at Tolka Park.
Waterford's point brings them within four of Dundalk at the top of the First Division but Shelbourne had the best chance of the match when Anto Flood missed from the spot late on.
The home side enjoyed the best of the opening half but failed to make a breakthrough, with Darren Forsyth and Mark O'Brien missing their best opportunities.
Waterford started the second half on top and Shelbourne were indebted to goalkeeper Dean Delaney as he kept out Karl Bermingham's effort.
Shels had a chance to snatch victory, and keep their promotion hopes alive, when Kenny Browne was adjudged to have brought down substitute Flood inside the area with 12 minutes remaining.
However, justice was done when Flood's penalty rebounded off Packie Holden's left upright.
In the final minutes, Flood was the guilty party once again when he blocked Robbie Heddermann's goal-bound header on the line.
