Cork City 4-1 Dungannon

Despite this convincing win for Cork at Turners Cross they will have to be content with an away semi-final as they just lose out to Drogheda on goal difference at the top of Group 1 of the Setanta Cup.

Alan Matthews' side led 2-0 at the break with a headed goal from Darren Murphy and a fine shot from Liam Kearney and it could have been more as they were well on top.

Dungannon pulled a goal back through Shea McGerrigan on 55 minutes, before a Denis Behan penalty and a tap-in from substitute Darragh Ryan completed the scoring.

The Irish league side, who had just one point from their five previous group matches, travelled to Cork without five players. Three were suspended - John Paul Gallagher, Mark McAllister and Johnny Montgomery - with Mark McCann and Terry Fitzpatrick out because of work commitments.

This was the second meeting of the sides in this season's campaign, with Cork winning the first outing back in February, when George O'Callaghan who has since moved on to Tranmere Rovers scored both goals in the 2-0 win at Stangmore Park.

Cork were totally dominant as they attacked the visitor's goal with wave after wave of attacks, and they could have scored three times through Lawrie Dudfield, Joe Gamble and Denis Behan who hit a shot off the crossbar in the opening five minutes.

So it was no surprise when they eventually took the lead after 23 minutes when a Danny Murphy free kick was beautifully headed to the net by in-form midfielder Darren Murphy, past diving goalkeeper Dwayne Nelson for his fourth goal of the season.

The homeside added to their lead six minutes before the break when the lively Liam Kearney drilled a low shot from the edge of the penalty area to the bottom corner of the Dungannon net.

With Cork pushing for goals they were exposed at the back and Shea McGerrigan rounded Mark McNulty to walk the ball in ten minutes into the second half.

But Denis Behan restored Cork's two goal advantage when he scored form the penalty spot after 63 minutes after Lawrie Dudfield was fouled in the area by Adam McMinn.

Joe Gamble set up the Leesider's fourth goal dancing past a few tackles before passing to substitute Darragh Ryan for a far post tap in, Behan struck a shot off the cross bar for a second time with three minutes left.

Cork needed to win by three more goals than Drogheda who won 2-0 against Cliftonville who claimed top spot and a home semi-final tie.
