Sporting Fingal officially launched

The eircom League of Ireland's newest club, Sporting Fingal, was officially launched tonight at a special event in Corduff Sports Centre in Dublin.

The new club which will compete in the Eircom League First Division in the 2008 season and was recently awarded a club licence by the FAI as part of the Fingal Football Development Plan.

The creation of this new independently funded club and the proposed development by Fingal County Council of a football academy complex are part of the Council's Football Development Plan which has been almost two years in the making.

Former Irish International player, Liam Buckley has been appointed Director of Football with Sporting Fingal FC.

A third element of the Council's Football Development Plan would see a long term proposal being put forward to facilitate the construction of a community sports stadium.

The new club is privately funded by a team of owners and investors who came together in response to an invitation for expressions of interest advertised by Fingal County Council in mid-2007.

'Community is everything in this Club', explained David O'Connor, Fingal County Manager, who attended the launch in Corduff.

'Community is the foundation on which the club and our football development plan are built and each football club in Fingal can rightfully feel that Sporting Fingal FC is their League of Ireland club.'
