New Ireland manager 'imminent'
Sunday, 3 February 2008The FAI confirmed tonight that a new manager would not be in place before Ireland's clash with Brazil on Wednesday night.
News that the FAI were to issue a statement on Sunday night led people to believe that an announcement was forthcoming.
But now the team will be managed by Don Givens for the high-profile clash against the South American superstars.
Givens is the Chairman of the Selection Panel responsible for appointing the next Ireland manager.
The FAI statement that was released on their website on Sunday night read: 'Don Givens, the Chairman of the Selection Panel set up to recruit the next manager of the Republic of Ireland senior international team, tonight met with the Board of Management of the Football Association of Ireland to update them on the process.
'He gave the ten Board members a progress report on the work done by himself and the other members of the Selection Panel, Ray Houghton and Don Howe, since he last spoke to the Board.
'He indicated that the Panel's work will be completed within ten days and that an appointment is imminent.
'The Board expressed their satisfaction with the progress report.'
