Watford 1-4 Wolves

Wolves produced their best win of the season to move into the fifth round of the FA Cup after thrashing Coca-Cola Championship rivals Watford at Vicarage Road.

Two goals from Ireland's Andy Keogh sandwiched goals by compatriot Stephen Elliott and Jay Bothroyd as Wanderers cruised to victory, with a scrappy strike from John-Joe O'Toole all the home side could muster in reply.

Wolves had exited the cup in the fourth round in each of the last four seasons and were clearly intent on overcoming that hurdle this time around as they flew out of the blocks.

Manager Mick McCarthy made changes to the side that won 2-0 at Scunthorpe last weekend with cup-tied recent signings Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who was also suspended, and David Edwards making way for Bothroyd and Darren Potter.

Left-beck Michael Gray dropped to the bench so Rob Edwards moved into the centre of defence and Neill Collins moved to full-back.

And it was Bothroyd who had a hand in the goal after just five minutes.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey launched a big kick up the field and Bothroyd flicked the ball into the path of Keogh who clipped the ball over Richard Lee.

Watford had made six changes with Malky Mackay making his first start of the season in place of loan defender Calum Davenport, who has returned to West Ham after breaking a bone in his neck, and they slowly found their way into the game.

And the Hornets came close to equalising when Darren Ward fouled Nathan Ellington on the edge of the box.

The former Wigan and West Brom striker took the free-kick himself but saw the ball rebound off the post.

Wolves, who before last Saturday's victory at Scunthorpe had gone eight games without a league win, were controlling the game but it was the home side who were having the chances as Tamas Priskin hit a shot from 20 yards which Ward had to block.

Steve Kabba then put a shot wide but the Hornets were reduced to trying their luck from distance as the Wolves defence easily kept them at bay.

And the visitors extended their lead in the 58th minute as Keogh and Matt Jarvis played a one-two before Keogh supplied a pass to Elliott who finished for 2-0 to the visitors.

Keogh then had a chance to claim his second goal as he brought a save from Lee but it was not long before Wolves had a third as Bothroyd, who had been lively all afternoon, got his name on the scoresheet.

Jarvis and Keogh again combined in the build-up and the striker found Bothroyd, who beat Lee from close range.

Watford had a goal back within two minutes though as Kabba's cross caused a scramble in the box and O'Toole was on hand to poke home.

Jobi McAnuff then had a great chance to set up a tense finish as he got on the end of a cross from substitute Tommy Smith but he put his shot wide.

And in the final minute Keogh had his second as some good work from Bothroyd found the striker 12 yards from goal and he thumped a shot home to seal a comfortable win.
