Republic set to play Brazil
Thursday, 8 November 2007 22:56Brazil will provide the opposition for an international friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, 6 February in Croke Park.
The Football Association of Ireland confirmed this afternoon that the five-times World Cup winners would visit the historic stadium next year, subject to final agreement on terms with the GAA.
'We are fully committed to bringing some of the finest teams in the world to Dublin and giving our fans the opportunity to see Ireland in action against the game's top players,' said FAI chief executive John Delaney.
'Brazil enjoyed their last visit to Dublin and were very keen to visit again.'
The Republic of Ireland have met Brazil on four previous occasions with one victory and one draw over the South Americans.
The Republic's only win against Brazil came in 1987, when Liam Brady scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at Lansdowne Road.
Brazil's last visit to Dublin was in 2004 when the then World Cup holders were held to a scoreless draw.
