O'Brien quits Pompey for Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers have signed Ireland international Andy O'Brien on a two-year contract from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old is Wanderers boss Sammy Lee's 12th signing of the summer.

The former Bradford and Newcastle United centre-half moved to the south coast club in 2005 but was in and out of the side and failed to hold down a regular first team spot last season due to the arrival of Sol Campbell from Arsenal.

'Andy is an astute acquisition. His versatility across the back line will give us greater strength in depth and options in critical areas,' said Lee.

O'Brien will go straight into the squad for Wednesday's away game at Fulham.
