Baird set to sign for Sunderland

Southampton have accepted a £3million bid for their Northern Ireland international defender Chris Baird.

Baird, who was voted as the club's player of the year last season, handed in a transfer request to Saints boss George Burley last month.

Fulham and ex-Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez had a £2.5million bid for Baird rejected.

But he now seems set to join Roy Keane's side in the Premiership this season.
