Allardyce hits out at 'moaning' Wenger
Sunday, 26 November 2006Bolton manager Sam Allardyce aimed a verbal volley at Arsene Wenger after Nicolas Anelka's stunning double strike inspired the home side to a 3-1 win against Arsenal at the Reebok Stadium.
Former Arsenal striker Anelka scored his first Premiership goals for Bolton since his £8.5million pounds arrival from Fenerbahce in August.
But after seeing his side extend their four-year unbeaten streak at home to the Gunners, Allardyce chose to hit out at Wenger's regular complaints about Bolton's style of play.
Allardyce said: 'I don't have to make my players aware of what he says because he makes disparaging comments about us all the time.
'It's about time he ate a bit of humble pie and gave us some credit. They haven't beaten us in the league since 2002 and I love big managers moaning.
'I just hope Jose Mourinho is moaning as much as Arsene does after Chelsea have been here on Wednesday.
'With Chelsea around the corner, this is a terrific win for us. We can now relax and get ready for that game and hopefully give a similar performance.'
Having taken the lead through Abdoulaye Faye's ninth minute header, Bolton doubled their lead when Anelka netted from 25 yards on the stroke of half-time.
Gilberto Silva's header seconds later reduced the arrears for Arsenal, but Anelka put the game beyond their reach with his second on 76 minutes.
With Arsenal now 12 points adrift of leaders Manchester United, Gunners boss Wenger admits that time is running out on his team's title hopes.
Wenger said: 'This result is a big blow for us and we are too far behind in the league. The number of points we have dropped, with the way we have been playing, is difficult to take.'
