Ronnie O'Sullivan enjoyed a 5-1 cruise into round two of the totesport.com Welsh Open against former practice partner Stuart Bingham.

'The Rocket' bounced back well from his Pokerstars.com Masters final implosion against Mark Selby, storming into a commanding position straight from the off with breaks of 56, 66 and 89 to take the opening three frames.

Bingham cut the deficit in a scrappy fourth frame after an error in safety from the world number one, and had chances to also take the fifth.

But after the Basildon player missed a red and a black in quick succession, O'Sullivan cleared the colours - including a brilliant green along the side cushion - and sealed the match with a break of 82 which climaxed with an exhibition pink and a final shot which sent both white and black careering off the table.

A host of one-word answers characterised another eccentric press conference, following his often bizarre approach to the media at Wembley, though he rated his performance at "11" out of 10.

Mark King survived both the threat of Scotsman Marcus Campbell and the possibility of his wife giving birth to prevail by the same 5-1 scoreline.

The 35-year-old's third child is due in 10 days' time, but King stated beforehand that should he receive news of wife Sally going into labour, he would 'be off, no matter what'.

The Essex potter won a 63-minute second frame on the brown and also knocked in a 54 break as he joined O'Sullivan and Mark Allen in progressing from the first session.

The Irishman, beaten 6-5 by Selby in the Masters quarter-finals, overcame Leicester's Tom Ford 5-2.

Allen trailed 2-0 before half-century breaks in five successive frames - 58, 56, 52, 64 and 61 - saw him through.
