Ebdon & Hendry ease through in Glasgow

Peter Ebdon eased past Liang Wenbo to reach the second round of the Grand Prix in Glasgow.

Chinese cueman Liang had won his previous meeting with the 2002 world champion, at last month's Shanghai Masters, but Englishman Ebdon gained revenge with a 5-2 victory at the Kelvin Hall.

The pair shared the opening four frames, however Ebdon dominated after the mid-session interval.

He quickly won the first frame back with breaks of 46 and 27, and took the scrappy next to go within one frame of victory at 4-2.

He wrapped up a routine win when Liang's break ended at 27 and the Dubai-based potter went on a run of 32 to end the match after two hours and 39 minutes.

On the other table, former world number one Stephen Hendry saw off Matthew Selt, also by a 5-2 scoreline.

Hendry took the first session 3-1 but Selt won a scrappy fifth frame after the Scot missed a yellow, only for Hendry to respond in kind and take a 4-2 lead.

Hendry required three chances in frame seven to finish the match off, missing a simple red after a break of 22 and breaking down again on a run of 40 when 52 ahead with 51 points left on the table.

But following a passage of safety, he potted the match-clinching yellow.
