Greene & Day out of Glasgow GP

Neil Robertson won four consecutive frames to inflict a 5-3 defeat on Irishman Gerard Greene at the Grand Prix in Glasgow.

Robertson was first to show in the opening frame with a break of 32 but Greene responded with a 79 to go 1-0 up.

Greene also took the second before his Australian opponent reduced the deficit to 2-1.

However, Greene continued his fine form with a break of 97 in the fourth to claim a 3-1 lead at the mid-session interval.

Robertson upped his game after the interval and a break of 78 saw him pull one back before he levelled matters at 3-3.

The Melbourne player won his third successive frame with a speedy break of 61 to move one frame from victory.

The Australian then took his fourth consecutive frame to win 5-3 and move into the second round.

Elsewhere, world number six Ryan Day will be unable to go one better than last year after he went down to a 5-3 defeat by Jamie Cope at the Grand Prix in Glasgow.

In a topsy-turvy match, Cope went 2-0 ahead before Day - last year's losing finalist - won three consecutive frames and appeared to have the momentum.

However, 24-year-old Cope stuck at it and won the next three to claim victory as Day joined Mark Selby and Marco Fu in exiting the tournament.

Day started well with a break of 64 after looking set for a maximum but Cope responded and eventually edged the frame by a single point after being gifted a free ball.

Day continued his good form in the second frame but then missed a simple pink and, after missing a more difficult chance, Cope moved two frames clear.

However, the third frame saw Day in commanding form and he moved ominously through the table with a 147 clearly in his sights.

Having already cleared 134, the Welshman was just unable to pot the pink but he had reduced the arrears to 2-1 in impressive fashion.

The 29-year-old continued in the same vein in the next frame and drew level at 2-2 with a break of 73 prior to the mid-session break.

The fifth frame took a while to get going with both players inching along.

Day appeared on the brink of taking the initiative but failed to break clear and Cope hit back, presenting his opponent with a snooker at 39-22.

But Day managed to edge a tight frame to take a 3-2 lead and appeared to have the momentum.

The Glamorgan player carried on in inimitable form in the sixth frame and looked ominous with a break of 55 before Cope came back in what was another tight frame, with neither player taking control.

Day jawed a yellow and eventually Cope went ahead to draw level at 3-3.

Day started the seventh with a break of 38 but his Stoke opponent responded to take a 64-38 lead before the pair traded snookers and eventually Cope prevailed to win his second successive frame and lead 4-3 - just one away from victory.

Cope then kept his nerve in the final frame.
