Hendry completes stunning comeback
Tuesday, 8 September 2009 12:26Stephen Hendry completed a remarkable turnaround, coming back from 4-0 down to seal a 5-4 win over Marcus Campbell in the second round of the Shanghai Masters.
Campbell took all of the first three scrappy frames, with a highest break of 54, before runs of 65 and 41 gave him frame four and put him on the brink of the next round.
Hendry then took the next three, with breaks of 78 and 81 along the way, but looked to be on his way out when he fell 57-0 down in the eighth.
A run of 68 gave him that frame, however, and a similar break in the next round sealed his progression.
Ryan Day also advanced with a tense 5-3 win over Li Yan.
The Welshman rattled off a break of 111 in the first frame but was struggling when the Chinese qualifier took three in a row to lead 3-2.
Day reasserted his authority though with a break of 71 to level, before winning a scrappy seventh frame and nicking the eighth after his opponent broke down on 59.
Other winners this morning were Ricky Walden, who eased past Mark King 5-1, and Marco Fu, who took his game against Nigel Bond on a final-frame decider.
