Teenage Ospreys winger Tom Prydie will become the youngest ever Wales international after being named in the side for the RBS 6 Nations match against Italy on Saturday.

The 18-year-old replaces Leigh Halfpenny in a team showing five changes from their loss in Ireland.

Flanker Martyn Williams is dropped for 21-year-old open-side Sam Warburton.

Captain Ryan Jones returns from injury as do fellow British and Irish Lions Gethin Jenkins and Mike Phillips.

Wales coach Warren Gatland said of Prydie: 'Tom has been with us for the duration of the campaign, he was one of two youngsters - brought in alongside Kristian Phillips - who we wanted to have a look at and we've been impressed with him.

'We heard some good things about him from his region and from the coaches at under 18 level and he has lived up to that, as has Kristian as well.'

Prydie will break Cardiff player Norman Biggs' 112-year record and become Wales' youngest player by 24 days.

He also made history as the youngest player to play in Europe when - aged just 17 - he made his Heineken Cup bow in December for the Ospreys against Viadana.

'He is the fastest player in the squad, he can play at full back as well as on the wing and he is not afraid to tackle so we'll see how he goes,' continued Gatland.

Wales team to play Italy in the RBS 6 Nations at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, 2.30pm:

15 Lee Byrne, 14 Tom Prydie, 13 James Hook, 12 Jamie Roberts, 11 Shane Williams, 10 Stephen Jones, 9 Mike Phillips, 8 Ryan Jones (captain), 7 Sam Warburton, 6 Jonathan Thomas, 5 Luke Charteris, 4 Bradley Davies, 3 Adam Jones, 2 Matthew Rees, 1 Gethin Jenkins

Replacements: 16 Huw Bennett, 17 Paul James, 18 Ian Gough, 19 Gareth Delve, 20 Dwayne Peel, 21 Andrew Bishop, 22 Tom Shanklin.
