English tight-head prop Dan Cole will miss Ireland’s visit to Twickenham because of a bulging disk in his neck, the English RFU have announced.

Cole's injury was diagnosed after he experienced weakness during a gym session last week.

The disk was trapping a nerve, the RFU said, and Cole will miss the rest of the Six Nations Championship.

England Head Coach described Cole’s withdrawal as “massively disappointing” and said that Bath prop David Wilson would replace him, the only change to England's 33-man squad.

“Our medics are working closely with Leicester’s to come up with a programme that will ensure Dan returns in the best possible shape," Lancaster said.

Cole’s withdrawal will be seen as something of a boost for Ireland; he played all 80 minutes of England’s Six Nations opener against France, and 75 minutes of their dour win over Scotland.
