Former Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan has said that he applied, and did not make the interview stage, for the soon to be filled England head coach’s role.
O’Sullivan, speaking on RTÉ’s Sport at 7, told Damien O’Meara that he was not shortlisted for the RFU post, which interim coach Stuart Lancaster is currently filling.
He said, “Yes, I put my name in, but I wasn’t included in the small group for interview.”
O’Sullivan was head coach of Ireland from 2001-2008, and subsequently coached the US Eagles, but left that post following the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
