A strong finish from Ireland was not enough to deny France in the Women's 6 Nations clash in Ashbourne on Friday.
UL Bohemians’ Niamh Briggs scored a try which was subsequently converted two minutes into injury time to leave just two points between the sides at the finish.
France went 6-0 up after 20 minutes thanks to two penalties from Sandrine Agricole, but the home side responded with a Niamh Kavanagh try following good work from Lynn Cantwell to leave the half-time score 6-5.
A Christelle Chobet try on 63 minutes proved to be the defining score as the French had enough of a cushion to withstand the late Irish charge.
