Treviso have released a statement on their official website announcing that they intend to pull out of the RaboDirect PRO12 at the end of the current season.

The Italian club cites uncertainty over the competition’s future as the reason they intend to end their involvement in the four-nation tournament.

The statement says that due to the prolonged lack of final decisions over the Pro12's organisation, participation and regulations, the club believes it cannot renew its contract with the competition.

They go on to say that they are willing to possibly participate in a competition that the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) intend to promote, once the future of the Pro12 has been defined.

The Pro12 has told RTÉ Sport that they have no comment in relation to Treviso’s statement, except to say that negotiations over the future of Italian participation in the Pro12 are continuing with the FIR.

This move comes in the wake of a statement by FIR president Alfredo Gavazzi that the organisation intends to withdraw both Treviso and Zebre from the Pro12 and enter them in an eight-team Italian league.
