Ulster and Ireland flanker Stephen Ferris will be out of action for a further three months following an operation on his ankle yesterday.

Ferris sustained the injury in November, and although he was said to have made excellent progress, still suffered pain and problems with functionality in the ankle.

After considering specialist medical opinions, Ferris underwent successful surgery yesterday when bone fragments were removed and is now expected to make a full and complete recovery.
