Reports in France suggest Ireland and Leinster No 8 Jamie Heaslip has turned down a move to Toulon, the world’s richest rugby club.

The 30-year-old had been linked to both Toulouse and the Heineken Cup champions, but French newspaper Midi Olympique is reporting that Heaslip has said ‘non’ to Toulon.

If confirmed, the news is a huge boost to the IRFU and Leinster’s chances of signing the Lions star to a new contract.

Heaslip’s back-row team-mate Sean O’Brien, who will miss the Six Nations through injury, had been believed to be on the verge of a switch to Toulon before signing a new two-year deal to remain at Leinster last week.

Leinster will travel to Toulon for a Heineken Cup quarter-final clash in April.

The French giants are believed to have clinched a deal to sign Lions and Wales star Leigh Halfpenny however, with Midi Olympique reporting that he will be paid a salary of €480,000 per year.
