Ulster centre Darren Cave has been ruled out for six weeks after sustaining a ligament injury in his foot.
The 24-year-old picked up the injury in Friday night’s 41-7 win over Leicester and an MRI scan on Monday revealed the extent of the damage.
Ulster face Clermont Auvergne on Saturday needing at least a draw, or a bonus point - while denying Clermont a bonus point - to top Pool 4.
Cave missed large parts of last season with a hamstring injury and this latest injury is a huge disappointment for player who has been one of Ulster’s standout performers in recent months.
