Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer has joined Aviva Premiership side Bath on a short-term deal.

The Somerset club confirmed the signing on their website and head coach Gary Gold said: "He is still keen to compete at the highest level, and we are short at scrum-half at the moment due to injury.”

Stringer, 35, has played over 200 times for Munster and has 98 international caps.

He has previously had spells at Saracens and Newcastle.

Munster coach Rob Penney said: "As things stand, the opportunity that Peter desires to play top level rugby consistently doesn't present itself here in Munster.

"Cognisant of that desire, we are happy to accomodate him and Bath Rugby's request and hope the arrangement proves mutually beneficial."
