Two-week ban handed out to De Villiers

South Africa wing Jean de Villiers has been banned for two weeks following a dangerous tackle in the team's 31-17 defeat by New Zealand.

De Villiers' lifting tackle on Rene Ranger in the first half of yesterday's match at Westpac Stadium at Wellington was picked out by citing commissioner Scott Nowland.

He appeared in front of judicial officer Dennis Wheelahan today and was handed the punishment which means he must sit out next Saturday's Tri Nations clash against Australia in Brisbane. South Africa do not have a fixture on the following weekend.
