Heineken Cup: As it happened
Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:51by Brendan Cole
5.38pm Great news for Leinster from London, where Llanelli have beaten the Scarlets by 25-27.
Ulster have lost to a late try by Edinburgh, they were beaten 17-13.
FULL-TIME: BRIVE 13-36 LEINSTER
83 mins Good shove by Leinster and McLaughlin picks up the ball as the scrum falls apart and dives over for another try. Shaun Beirne - in for Sexton a minute or two ago - knocks over the easy conversion. BRIVE 13-36 LEINSTER
79 mins The lineout ball is given to Healy who crashes into Goode - retribution there - and up to right by the Brive posts. Big drive from the young prop. Ball becomes unplayable and it is a Leinster scrum.
78 mins Brive run it again and O'Driscoll almost grabs an intercept on the Brive line. They run it out the 22 and a ruck develops. Ball is judged unplayable and Goode and O'Driscoll then start scuffling. Goode is penalised for illegal use of the boot - a sneaky little stamp - which O;Driscoll reacted to. Leinster kick the corner.
76 mins Brive lineout ball is moved wide but is knocked on. Leinster scrum and Heaslip picks it. Passed to Devin Toner on the wing and he lofts a poor pass infield to Van Der Linde who goes over - but it is called back for a forward pass.
74 mins Leinster win the lineout. Moved to Kearney but he doesn't have room to kick and takes contact. O'Driscoll then has a little dart from behind the scrum. Reddan then makes a brilliant dummy and sets Leinster on a sweeping move downfield with Nacewa almost getting home. A dozen passes or so end with Kearney putting a foot in touch on the far side of the field.
73 mins Brive win their lineout and set a maul. Goode has a go but is hit by O'Brien. Judged high and Brive tap and go. Called back for Leinster not being back 10 and Goode punts it into the Leinster half.
71 mins Gordon D'Arcy is on for Horgan.
Leinster ball off the top goes to deck in the backlin and Kearney has to scramble to clear it up but he gets a good kick away. O'Driscoll ends a ping pong series with a brilliant low kick that bobbles into touch in the corner.
70 mins Brive kick the corner but passing infield they drop the ball forward and it is Leinster ball. Illegal rucking - not binding again - is called on Brive this time. Vosloo with a charging hit into the ruck (both he and Van Der Linde are, of course, South African - no coincidence there, I suspect!).
5.23pm Scarlets are beating Irish by two points and there is very little time left there......
69 mins Leinster take the restart and work it to Kearney who boots it long. Brive keep ball in hand but again can't get going forward against the blue line. Penalty on half-way against Brive is called for an illegal turnover.
67 mins Try given - and Sexton adds the extras. BRIVE 13-29 LEINSTER.
65 mins Leinster win the restart and have advantage for a Brive knock on; Luke Fitzgerald knocks on and it is a scrum to Leinster. Ball is worked left and a slip pass by O'Driscoll to Nacewa puts him clear. He cuts inside and with the last tackler closing passes to McLaughlin. He ships a heavy hit but stays calm and rolling over the line puts the ball over his shoulder and down - TMO is called.
65 mins Goode adds the extras. BRIVE 13-22 LEINSTER
64 mins Drive goes in from ball caught and four and Leinster pull down the maul. Advantage Brive. Sean O'Brien then stops and another drive. Vosloo then burrows through the heart of Leinster's ruck defence and it is a five pointer for the French side. BRIVE 11-22 LEINSTER.
63 mins Scrum is messy but Leinster win it. Shane Horgan sets it up. Play is then stopped for an offence by Van Der Linde. Failing to bind when making a hit in the ruck (I think). A little high too.
Brive again kick the corner.
62 mins Classen takes it and Brive maul. Can't get going forward and it is on the deck. Eventually, they knock it on under pressure from the Leinster ruck defence.
61 mins Goode kicks the corner. Brive lineout 5 metres from the Leinster line.
60 mins Goode punts the ball down to the Leinster half. Brive win the ball at the front but it is messy and they up and under. Kearney runs it back and Leinster move it wide. They try some poorly judged passes and Horgan puts Sexton under pressure and he ends up getting blown for holding on.
CJ Van Der Linde is in.
58 mins Ball off the top hits Heaslip and McLaughlin takes up a superb drive next. Leinster make 15 yards quickly. Long sequence of Leinster carries - really good stuff and they get into the Brive 22 but eventually run out of support and are blown for holding on. Nacewa is back in.
57 mins Scrum to Leinster ends with a penalty to them. More shenanigans in the front row. 10 yards then given to Leinster for yap.
Sexton kicks to half-way.
56 mins Leinster turn over the lineout at 2 and Brive are again running at Leinster inside their 22 ends with a forward pass by the new scrum-half. Damien Browne - former Connacht man - would have been in a bit of room not far from the Leinster line had that call not been made.
55 mins Good kick by Palisson runs into touch in the Leinster 22 - wouldn't sit for Kearney.
53 mins Sexton just gets a kick away from the lineout ball and is hit as he does so. Brive set a ruck move the ball wide but Leinster turn it over after a big hit by McLaughlin on Brive hardman Vosloo, the number six, who stays down. Leinster knock it on inside the Brive 22.
Perry is off for Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Pejoine. A new prop - Toderasc - is also brought in.
53 mins Kevin McLaughlin comes on for Leo Cullen, who only just managed to be fit for this game.
52 mins Leinster win the lineout and get a maul set up. Brive get stuck in thoough and break it up before turning the ball over. They move it wide before chipping down the wing. Kearney gets it and puts up a garryowen. Brive take and Goode is eventually forced to clear to touch - makes the Leinster half with a good punt.
50 mins Strong scrum by Leisnter and they intercept the little 8-9-15 move. O'Driscoll and gets the return. He chips and chases this time and gets Perry just as the ball arrives - playing the new breakdown rules well, he forces a scrum to Leinster.
Penalty Leinster is called from that. Warning for the Brive prop - refusing to stay up. Sexton will kick the corner this time.
49 mins Goode punts the ball down the line. Ball off the top is moved to Claassen who hits it up the middle. Again, Brive are reduced to firing the ball around in front of the Leinster screen. Scrum Brive is called after ball becomes unplayable.
49 mins Brive go wide and Nacewa puts in a belting hit on the Brive winger, Alexis Palisson. It is a little high - over the ball and near the neck - and the Brive man is very shaken up. Yellow card for Nacewa.
48 mins Ball off the top is worked to O'Driscoll but his long pass hits the deck. Sexton mops it up and kicks it back and Goode returns one. Kearney up and unders and he gets to the kick but his tap back hits O'Brien and goes forward. Scrum Brive.
47 mins Bernard Jackman's wrist is being looked at on the sideline - hopefully he'll be OK.
Ref says the penalty stands and Sexton boots it to the Brive half.
46 mins Scrum to Leinster is won and then a penalty for wheeling it is called. John Fogarty is on. A bust up suddenly flares up with lots of players involved from both sides. No punches, but plenty of grappling. Fogarty got in a kerfuffle on the deck.
44 mins Ball is again crashed up straight and hard. Stopped well and again, Brive are struggling against the blue line. Briefly a chance looks on but Goode's pass goes behind his men out wide and it is a scrum to Leinster after neither side can tidy up the ball on the deck.
43 mins More re-start trouble - Cullen knocks on over his head. Scrum Brive near the Leinster 22.
40 mins Leinster take the kick-off, set a maul and win a penalty in quick succession. Sexton boots the penalty to just beyond the Brive 10 metre line. O'Driscoll crashes up off the top ball and then Heaslip gets it. Brive are then penalised for in at the side. Sexton will have a shot. It's a really good punched kick into the wind, he gets a belter. BRIVE 6-22 LEINSTER
4.35pm Ulster have moved ahead in Edinburgh, they lead 6-10 thanks to a Timoci Nagusa try and a penalty and conversion from Ian Humphreys.
4.32pm Irish have gone ahead, 25-21.
38-40 mins O'Brien takes the drop out and Leinster start attacking again. Stunning piece of skill from O'Driscoll livens up an otherwise dull sequence. From his amazing offload - took it into a crowd of three men and popped out the other side with his arm free - Leinster ruck and Brive are blown for not rolling away. Sexton's takes the shot at goal and from just inside the Brive half and dead centre, he puts it over. HALF-TIME: BRIVE 6-19 LEINSTER
36 mins Goode's kick finishes ten yards out of the Brive 22. The lineout is not good and Leinster get it. Moved wide to Nacewa - lovely pass by Kearney. Brive get the tackle in and from the next ruck, Sexton has a drop at goal. Just wide.
35 mins Jackman throws well to O'Kelly at the back of the line. Maul is set and Leinster drive it up to the 5 metre line where the maul collapses. Call is penalty Brive because Malcolm O'Kelly grabbed a Brive man around the neck. Great play by Leinster though.
33 mins Drop out is again messy and it bounces but Leinster get a penalty for a barge underneath it on Cullen. Sexton boots the ball to the Brive 22 - great kick.
33 mins Leinster have a good win behind them but are making use of it. Sexton's kick is again purely struck and good. BRIVE 6-16 LEINSTER.
30 mins Perry box kicks and Leinster work it to Sexton who dummies and goes 20 yards. Leinster are established in the Brive 22 but can't penetrate. Brive make a mess of a Leinster ruck and turn it over but they are quickly blown for not releasing dead in front of the sticks and 10 yards outside the Brive 22. Good work by Healy there to win the penalty.
29 mins Sexton's kick-off is high and central. Horgan gets under it and taps it back but it goes to a Brive man. Perry kicks it long to Kearney. He tries an ill advised drop goal which skews over to the left. Brive take their time getting organised and Heaslip gets a charge down in - and the ball spins laterally into touch.
28 mins Goode pots the easy kick. BRIVE 6-13 LEINSTER. Llanelli have gone ahead in London - 18-21.
26 mins Brive win good ball and move it to midfield, where they manage to set a maul in open play. They drive it up to the 10 metre line and then shift wide to the wing. Shifted back and Sean O'Brien and Luke Fitzgerald make a hit that is judged high in midfield. Just a penalty - not that high really.
25 mins Leinster fail to control the kick-off again and it is moved wide to Noon. A Brive attack ends with them being pushed into touch. Leinster maul the lineout and then Reddan kicks low and long. Brive are hurried and the kick to touch is weak - Leinster lineout near the Brive 10 metre line. It is messy though and the ball is slapped back on the Leinster side but into touch. Lineout Brive.
24 mins Sexton knocks the kick over. BRIVE 3-13 LEINSTER
4.13pm Interesting times at the Madejski Stadium, where it is London Irish 18-18 Llanelli with two tries each. Edinburgh are leading 3-0 against Ulster.
21-22 mins Ball is crashed up by Noon. Perry knocks on from the back of the ruck - Jamie Heaslip, with much the same idea that saw Leinster gift Edinburgh a chance to win the game against Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago - doing the sneaky work. Scrum is then pinged for a penalty to Leinster. A nice minute or two there for the boys in blue.
20 mins Sexton punts to half-way between the 10 metre line and Brive 22. Ball off the top moved to Horgan via another wrap around. Jackman then takes it up from that ruck. Moved wide again but Horgan's pass for Nacewa is both ambitious and inaccurate and goes straight into touch.
17 mins Scrum folds but the ball is out and moved wide to O'Driscoll - shade of a chance but O'Driscoll is hit hard and the ball is knocked from his hand. Should be Leinster penalty for deliberate knock on but it is a Brive scrum instead. They move it wide but the move ends with a penalty in the ruck.
16 mins Kick-off is knocked on by O'Kelly. Scrum Brive just inside the Leinster 10 metre line. Solid from them and they move it to McKay on the crash ball. Attack is moved wide but Leinster are tackling well and the pace in the defensive line is good; Brive are losing yards with ball in hand.
A final attempt to go wide with a high pass over O'Driscoll's head ends with a dropped ball. That might have worked, but the hands were not good enough.
13 mins Scrum is shaky on both sides. Leinster win a free-kick and Heaslip takes it up. Ruck ball on the Brive 22 but it is slow.
Gorgeous back move ends in a stunning Kearney try.
Sexton passes to O'Driscoll, and is then fed running the wrap around before popping to Kearney on the angle and the full-back goes in virtually untouched. Very much in the style of Lee Byrne there, a lovely try. Sexton nails the kick. BRIVE 3-10 LEINSTER
11 mins Leinster took that - a heel against the head by Jackman - and they chip down the wing through Horgan. It is returned by Goode and after another kicking back and forth, Nacewa has a run. Leinster then move it to Hines who makes yards. Moved wide to Fitzgerald next and he goes wide and is downed. Leinster are making inroads and Heaslip goes forward in midfield. Ross then takes one up but it is blown for a scrum after the ball becomes unplayable.
10 mins Super lineout by Leinster won by Cullen. Moved to the centre where O'Driscoll passes to Nacewa. He is tackled and a knock on is called after a Brive boot gets at the ball on the deck. Scrum Brive on half-way.
9 mins Goode's drop out is almost won by Brive but Leinster get it and move wide to Kearney who boots it long and low. A chip and charge attempt by Laharrague at full-back ends with the Brive captain being run into touch. Leinster lineout on half-way.
8 mins Sexton lines up the kick and he puts it over - tight to the right hand post but good. BRIVE 3-3 LEINSTER
6-8 mins Strong scrum and Claasen the Brive number eight runs it out. Perry then box kicks. Horgan takes very well and Leinster move it wide and Kearney beats a man but is then downed. Moved back across and O'Driscoll tries an offload but can only pass to a Brive player. They now start running but a hard tackle from Horgan stops the momentum. Goode clears to Kearney who runs it back. Penalty Leinster is then called for offside.
3-5 mins Brive take the kick and maul it out of defence but are turned over. Heaslip runs it back and Leinster have the ball on half-way. A wrap arond move by Leinster does not work but thye are pinged for not rolling away. Reddan takes quickly and Leinster keep attacking. Briefly had an overlap but Sexton didn't use it. Luke Fitzgerald has a cut next and beats several men before passing to Horgan. Another ruck and some pick and drives follow before it is moved wide again. Horgan gets it again but there's a knock on. Scrum to Brive on their 22 metre line.
2 mins Noon crashes up ball off the top. Steve Thompson takes it up next and it is hard running stuff. Penalty Brive is then given for a ruck offense - an illegal shove at the scrumhalf Leinster. Sean O'Brien called there and Goode will have a shot.
He gets the kick and it is BRIVE 3-0 LEINSTER.
2 mins Penalty against Mike Ross at tighthead for Leinster - angle was off.
Goode boots it to near the Leinster half.
1 min It's an intimidating atmosphere at Brive - a real bearpit - and the team look well keyed up too.
Johnny Sexton kicks off for Leinster. Claimed high in the air by Brive and Shaun Perry boots a box kick. Kearney's attempt at a flying take is misjudged and he knocks on.
3.45pm Changes for Leinster are that Nathan Hines moves to six with Kevin McLaughlin dropping out as he is not fully fit. Leo Cullen is fit and will start in the number four jersey.
3.25pm That puts Munster top of the pool with six points. Perpignan are next on five with Northampton and Treviso on four. A decent shift in the end from the men in red.
In pool two, the result is Biarritz 42-15 Gloucester putting the French side top of their table with nine points.
Viadana 11-46 Leicester is the other result with the Ospreys v Clermont game on Sunday set to be vitally important to the pool outcome.
FULL-TIME: MUNSTER 41-10 TREVISO
78 mins Treviso will beat the general 32 point spread by a point if they can hang on......O'Gara punts the kick-off return to just inside the Treviso half. Treviso's 10-0 lead seems like a dream at this stage. Munster win the lineout but Stringer's chip goes out.
Another attack ends with a forward pass from Wallace to O'Connell and that is it. Powerful stuff in the end from the men in red......MUNSTER 41-10 TREVISO
74 mins Free kick Treviso for closing gaps. They are running at Munster and make a couple of short gains and near the Munster 22. A rip in the tackle ends the move and Munster move it to O'Gara.
He embarks on a long burst downfield and with four on one or thereabouts Munster contrive to mess up the scoring chance. O'Gara gets it again and is turned over.
Ball is punted out to Brugnaut and Munster have another cut at a try. This time they do it, Leamy taking contact and feeding De Villiers with a one handed offload and his nicely times burst takes him over. O'Gara hits the post with the kick. MUNSTER 41-10 TREVISO
72 mins Treviso lineout just inside their own half. Taken at the tail but it is not great ball. Ruck set up there and they box kick. Not cleanly taken by Dowling but Munster get the breaking ball and move it wide. Shifted to sub Denis Hurley who goes on a long striding run down the right wing and chips and collects. Just forced out inside the Treviso 22 - great stuff from Hurley.
Penalty is given from the lineout against Brugnaut for something or other - in at the side? - and Treviso punt the ball clear.
70 mins Treatment for Brugnaut but he will play on. Scrum is wheeled and the ball ends up in touch. Treviso win the lineout at the front but are forced back and Munster ruck over it and take the ball. Long punt out of defence lifts the pressure. Treviso return a kick to the corner and O'Gara clears to touch.
69 mins Treviso win a penalty for a rucking infringement just after the kick-off they tap and go and almost get a try but a flicked pass is judged - correctly - forward. Scrum Munster near their own line.
67 mins Scrum Treviso on their own 22. They move it wide but the pass from Goosen to Waters hits the deck and Ian Dowling collects. Lots of work to do but he powers forward and clings on tight under pressure to ground the ball for another try. O'Gara converts the easy kick. MUNSTER 36-10 TREVISO
65 mins Warwick returns the kick-off to touch to half-way and Treviso maul the lineout. Not getting too far - maybe 10 yards. They then start to pick and drive. A poor piece of handling gives it back to Munster and Earls almost connects with a cross kick but knocks on under pressure.
Stringer and Mick O'Driscoll are on.
62 mins 22 is given - ball had gone over.
The life has gone of the game though; no doubt on the result now.
Ball is taken by Earls and he embarks on a slashing break rounding the initial chase and beating two men before trying an offload. That doesn't quite work out and O'Connell seems to knock on. Not seen by the officials - and replays seem to suggest he didn't actually touch it. Wallace is next in line and he picks up the ball and gets over.
That certainly put some life back into things, and O'Gara lands the kick for good measure. MUNSTER 29-10 TREVISO
61 mins Fraser Waters is now on in the centre for Treviso. Ball to tail does not work for Munster but Treviso clearance kick is charged down by Ronan and Treviso's sub hooker is forced to dot the ball down over his own line. TMO is called - could be scrum Munster.
61 mins Treviso win the lineout but their box kick clearance is weak and Munster now have it 10 yards out.
59 mins Scrum Treviso and they are solid this time. Goosen boots it long. A little ping pong follows. Treviso eventually set up an O'Gara up and under and then punt long again. Dull stuff.....ended by a class kick from Earls that bounces just the right side of the corner flag. A little too close for comfort, but a super kick all the same. Lineout Treviso 5 metres from their own line.
58 mins Quinlan off for Niall Ronan.
57 mins O'Connell takes the lineout and it is ruck ball near the Treviso line. Moved wide to De Villers but he and Mafi fail to connect and it is knocked on near the line.
57 mins Stop for drinks......it's warm out there. O'Callaghan has two superb steals at the front of the line to his name now and has been hugely impressive today.
Scrum Treviso and Munster are getting the shove on this time. Ball ends up in touch....great scrum from the front row. Varley making a difference?
56 mins Scrum ball is punted to the corner and Treviso are forced to touch. Munster take quickly and O'Gara feeds De Villiers with an inside pop. He is just forced out. Munster win the lineout again but their effort to get over the line is knocked. Varley gave up the ball there trying to get over.
55 mins Kick-off is box kicked back by O'Leary to half-way. Treviso knock it on - scrum Munster. Fogarty is going off for Varley, who has won a lot of praise in recent weeks. This is the big time - interesting move.
54 mins O'Gara misses another kick.
52 mins Munster win the lineout - with a tap backwards by O'Callaghan. Their ball just inside the 22. Pick and go series is the option first and it is then moved to Mafi. He takes contact and offloads to Earls who is wrapped up. Moved back across to O'Gara, who passes long to Quinlan. Warwick then arrives at pace on his inside shoulder and the Treviso defence has been cut in two by his intervention.
Warwick then feeds Fogarty out wide and he runs it in! Warwick drew four men to him there - a moment of class! MUNSTER 22-10 TREVISO
50-51 mins Throw to O'Connell at the tail is not straight. Scrum Treviso. Very solid. They kick long and Warwick returns a lovely punt crossfield to the corner. Treviso lineout a few metres from their own line.
49 mins Entire front row is changed by Treviso. Interesting - a clear tactic to do so on 50 minutes I think.
Munster scrum is beasted but they just get the ball out. O'Leary has a dart and chips, hits a Treviso defender's ankle and runs out. Lineout Munster.
48 mins There will a stewards inquiry if either Hurley or Brugnaut can't finish this one.
Treviso win the ball on half-way and kick long to Earls - he takes and sets it up. Moved right and Warwick returns a long kick which is spilled in the Treviso backfield. Scrum Munster near enough the Treviso 22.
47 mins There was play on there as Treviso kicked nicely from the Warwick spill. Munster lineout near their own line. Treviso infringe - in a the side.
Tony Buckley is also in the wards and has to come off. Darragh Hurley will come on with the new rules on the number of front row subs kicking in.
45 mins Munster chase well but Treviso have it just inside their half. Moved left by them and a good pass fools Dowling and slips the winger clear. Cover tackling is good and a knock on is forced on the Munster 22. O'Gara punts it long to the corner. Return kick is run out by Warwick who is ankle tapped. Takes a heavy fall and spills the ball forward.
He will play on but is a little shook.
44 mins Treviso get a free kick and take it quickly. Moved left but De Villiers and a few others wrap it up and it is now slow ball. Goosen tries a drop goal but it goes left and wide. Good pressure by O'Gara on him. It's a 22.
43 mins Earls takes the kick-out and sets it up. Ruck forms and O'Gara kicks the corner from O'Leary's pass - looks a ball but it continues to run and run until it finishes inside the Treviso dead ball zone. Scrum Treviso on the Munster 22.
42 mins O'Gara's poor day with the boot continues - an awful hook this time from wide out on the right misses the posts by a few yards.
40 mins Munster lineout inside the Treviso 22 after the Italians make a mess of O'Gara's drop kick to start the half. Munster try to maul but aggressive work by Treviso puts it down; a ruck is set and Denis Leamy smashes over a weak tackle for a try - Munster are on their way. MUNSTER 17-10 TREVISO
2.30pm Elsewhere around Europe it is:
Viadana 8-22 Leicester
Biarritz 21-3 Gloucester
44 mins O'Gara misses again, but Munster have two tries and a two point lead. HALFTIME.
43 mins Try is good - borderline, but no clear knock on so fair enough. MUNSTER 12-10 TREVISO
39-42 mins Ball to the tail and Mafi has a cut - tackled and the ruck is set. O'Callaghan and Buckley then make good yardage. Brief chance opens up out on the left when it is spun wide but Mafi hangs onto the ball and is tackled. Momentum is gone but it is Munster ball inside the 22.
Ball worked right then and a Treviso hand is penalised for an illegal knock on. Penalty is on but O'Gara opts to tap and go. He passes to Wallace but Treviso are alive to it. Munster power it to within yards of the Treviso line though.....O'Leary feeds Warwick and he pops up a cross kick. Dowling is underneath and he slides in at the ball and catches it over the tryline; it is unclear if he got it down......may be judged a knock on.
37 mins O'Gara punts to near half-way. O'Connell takes a big catch and another maul is set; O'Leary then box kicks. Not taken cleanly by Treviso but they have the ball and return a box kick of their own. Ball straight into touch is the call - lineout near half-way.
Ian Dowling is on for Howlett by the way.
36 mins Treviso call for another scrum. But Munster get a little shove this time and it is ruck ball to Treviso. First danger is ended....penalty Munster then follows - Denis Fogarty's rucking putting the pressure on and he gets the congratulations from his team-mates.
34-35 mins Treviso kick the penalty to the Munster 22 but O'Connell claims the lineout against the head. Worked out the left wing but Munster drop it.
Treviso hack through down the wing but Howlett chases back. His hamstring goes 10 yards from the ball and he is forced to hop on one leg after the ball. Does the needful and stops the try but he is done for the day. Huge applause for Howlett as replays show the New Zealander's bravery.
Scrum Treviso 5 metres out from the line. Goosen is back on for Treviso - surprising as he looked out of it.
Big scrum from Treviso and Munster concede the penalty.
33 mins Up and under is taken by Warwick who passes to Earls and he returns the favour. Howlett chases and arrives along with the ball but his tackle starts high and slips higher - penalty Treviso. Nothing malicious, but Howlett acknowledges the error.
32 mins O'Callaghan again takes from Fogarty and Munster set the maul going again. It goes down and O'Leary box kicks - high and infield. Munster get it back and run it wide but Lifeimi Mafi knocks it on. Scrum Treviso around half-way.
31 mins Crashed up the middle and set up but a penalty is given to Munster for rucking - not through the gate. O'Gara kicks the penalty to the Munster 10 metre line. Not great distance but it's Munster ball.
30 mins Leamy takes the kick-off and starts to run back. Tries something a little fancy and spills the ball. Scrum Treviso inside the Munster 22 and out near their right wing.
30 mins O'Gara lands the kick from out on the right. MUNSTER 7-10
28 mins Munster get the shove on this time - Brugnaut has made a difference - and O'Leary charges down the out-half's kick from inside the dead ball zone.
Scrum Munster and a free-kick is awarded. Leamy taps and goes and Munster start running big men at the Treviso defenders from ruck ball. Wide to Warwick at first receiver then and he simply rounds his defender - a front rower - and runs in a try for Munster. MUNSTER 5-10 TREVISO
26-27 mins Maul is set but doesn't quite get going. Ball is passed to Wallace and he has a massive go, beating two or three men and charging at the posts! Gets over the line with help from a couple of Munster forwards - gone about 40 metres - but is judged held up but the ref.
Scrum Munster and it goes wide but Earls knocks it on when spinning towards the line. Another chance gone.
25 mins Treviso take the kick and the scrum-half has a dart but is run into touch.
24 mins Kick is missed. Surreal atmosphere at Thomond Park - Andy Vilk is the tryscorer.
23 mins Ball is worked left from the scrum and......little miss move in the centre and they chip past Earls and a Treviso man slides over! Looks a try, but it is TMO time - try given!
22 mins 22 is taken and bombed high by Warwick. Goosen takes well and it is returned long. That ball is worked to Earls on the left wing and he takes on a man but play is called back for another Munster player blocking.
Replays show Munster had a four on three overlap when O'Gara opted to chip.....
Goosen is going off - key man for Treviso, he is South African A capped - and a new 10 is in. It's number 22 - Botes.
Goosen looks shook - contact with Howlett's arm did the damage.
Ball is punted to the Munster 22. Treviso win the lineout and work it wide to their right wing. Munster's defence holds out wide and it is a scrum to Treviso from a messy ruck.
20-22 mins Quinlan claims the kickout and a ruck is set. Nice kick through by Warwick is taken by a sliding De Villiers who tries to pass to Howlett. It's messy in the contact area, and a Treviso hand knocks on. Solid scrum and Howlett takes it up the middle - two brilliant hand offs from the former All Black and he is in the heart of the Treviso 22 in a heartbeat! Tackled and a quick ruck follows.
Ball is then chipped through by O'Gara but a Treviso hand gets the ball down. TMO time but it is carried over by the defender by looks of things, and it is another scrum five for Munster.......Communication problems between ref and TMO delay the call but it is eventually made - a 22 is given. Wrong call in my book, but that's life.
19 mins O'Gara lines up the kick. Not sure yet whether the Brugnaut/Horan call was tactical. All the trouble seemed to be with Buckley's side.....
O'Gara fails to kick the penalty from the left side of the 22.
17 mins Treviso clear the kick-off to their own 10 metre line. Munster set a maul and it slowly begins to move forwards.
Penalty advantage and Munster keep powering forward. Into the Treviso 22 and beyond......O'Leary then takes it and has a run but is tackled. Munster are 15 yards out with ruck ball. Play is then brought back for the penalty.
16 mins Brugnaut is on for Munster loosehead Marcus Horan.
16 mins Goosen, the Treviso out-half, misses the kick.
14 mins Treviso scrum powers forward and they also have advantage. The scrum breaks up and a ruck forms from where the ball is worked right and Brendan Williams, the Treviso right wing, is over! Mismatch with Marcus Horan opposite and he rounded him easily. So easy for them - bad organisaton and poor scrummaging there from Munster. MUNSTER 0-5 TREVISO
12-13 mins Munster engage in some fun and games at the scrum - couple of failed attempts to get it going - but it is clearly under pressure. Free kick Treviso as Buckley collapses. Treviso will take a scrum - big moment.......first one collapses.
11 mins Munster win the lineout and O'Leary box kicks but the ball spills infield and Treviso then work it left across their backline to the wing; the winger pops a nice little kick up and charges towards the Munster line. Munster just get to him and disrupt and the call is for a scrum to Munster - that was close.
10-11 mins Treviso lost the line out and konck on to boot. Munster ball and Earls has a go from O'Leary's pass - beats one man but is caught then. O'Gara then launches a trademark tumbling kick to the corner. Treviso are briefly troubled but the wing and full-back just manage to put together a clearance to half-way.
9 mins O'Callaghan again takes at the front but the maul is not set and Munster have it on the deck. Buckley crashes one up and the O'Gara has a little go. Penalty is then given to Treviso for holding on - O'Gara got a little isolated. Treviso clear to near half-way.
7-9 mins Lineout is won at the front by O'Callaghan and Munster start to maul it - good gain quickly and they keep going down the wing. O'Leary then feeds O'Gara who punts crossfield for Howlett, he takes and beats man but is caught by the last tackler and his offload for Warwick hits the deck! Textbook stuff from Munster but it doesn't quite come off. Treviso win the lineout and clear to just outside their 22.
6 mins Treviso run it right where Mafi tackles. Back to forward boshing then but Munster force a holding on call and O'Gara punts to just beyond the Treviso ten metre line.
5 mins The Musnter scrum is shoved backwards and Leamy then knocks on trying to pull it out at the back. That won't do.......scrum Treviso inside the Munster half.
4 mins Treviso claim at the back of the lineout and set it up in midfield but lose the ball to a good Munster counter ruck. Up and under follows and De Villiers claims it really well getting up high over his Italian opponent. Scrum Munster when the ball becomes unplayable on the deck.
2-4 mins Penalty kick drops short and O'Gara kicks - not too good it drops short. Quinlan claims the up and under and Munster run it out through Mafi, who gets over half-way - good pace. Warwick steps in at 10 again and is tackled. Next move sees it go wide to Quinlan who sets it up. A poor pass by O'Gara hits the deck and Treviso get is back and kick. Howlett returns it to near half-way.
1 min And their off. Munster receive the kick-off and set it up in their own 22. O'Leary box kicks and the chase is strong - Treviso ball on half-way and they start running hard through their forwards. Big tackling and the collisions are already looking tough.
Penalty to the Italians at the fourth ruck for not rolling away. Inside the Munster half but well out to the Treviso right wing, they'll have a shot.

1.34pm Munster team is as named with Keith Earls on the wing and Paul Warwick at full-back and the back row trio of Quinlan, Leamu and Wallace remaining from last week. Tony Buckey's performance at tighthead prop will also be a key point of interest this afternoon.....the old cliche about Italians and scummaging......
On the bench, Ian Dowling is perhaps the unluckiester player to miss out but could well have a say at some point this afternoon.
It's a beautiful sunny afternoon in Limerick - perfect conditions for Munster to get into try scoring form early.
Munster run out on the field led by Paul O'Connell; the men in red have a serious, 'let's get down to business' vibe.......
1.20pm Munster will get today's Heineken Cup action underway at 1.35 - they will ideally take a bonus point win over Treviso although with the Italians much improved, that may prove more difficult than in previous years.
Ulster and Leinster both kick off at 3.45pm and we will focussing on the boys in blue as they take on Brive in a critically important match; victory is needed to keep back to back cup hopes alive after last week's defeat to London Irish.
Ulster travel to Edinburgh and a second win after beating Bath last week will put them in good shape in their Pool, though the challenge of back to back games against Stade Francais in Rounds Three and Four will then loom into view.
