2008 Heineken Cup winners Munster Munster fans arrived early at the Millennium Stadium. Fans also gathered in O'Connell Street in Limerick to watch the match on the big screen. Game on. Alan Quinlan's surge upfield is halted by Shaun Sowerby. It was then Quinlan's job to do the tackling, this time on Thierry Dusautoir. Lifemi Mafi tries to evade the tackle of Yves Donguy. Jannick Jauzion and Denis Hurley compete for a high ball. Jean Boulihou claims a lineout under pressure from Paul O'Connell. Captain O'Connell led by example in a tough encounter. Denis Leamy reaches for the line with the ball. The try was subsequently disallowed by referee Nigel Owens. But Leamy did not have to wait long for a try as Munster went ahead for the first time. A superb break downfield by Cedric Heymans saw Donguy go over for a try that was converted by Ellisalde to bring Toulouse level. But Ronan O'Gara held his nerve to kick the winning penalty. The referee's whistle sparked wild celebrations among the Munster players. David Wallace salutes the massive Munster support. Marcus Horan cannot contain his delight after the final whistle. Victory was a fitting end to Declan Kidney's time at the southern province. It fell to O'Connell & O'Gara to raise the Heineken Cup for the second time in three seasons.
