The winner of this year's RTÉ Sports Person of The Year and RTÉ Team of The Year Award will be decided by an expert RTÉ judging panel.

The panel will choose the winners from a shortlist featuring the public's nominations.

It's been another dramatic year in Irish sport, from the highs of Padraig Harrington winning the Open Championship and the Irish cricket team beating Pakistan in the World Cup, to the lows of Ireland's Rugby World Cup campaign in France and the Irish soccer team failing to qualify for next year's European Championships.

It's been a remarkable year for the Kilkenny hurlers and the footballers of Kerry, while Katie Taylor, David Gillick and the Special Olympic team all enjoyed gold medal success.

On the track Aidan O'Brien enjoyed another incredible year while Drogheda United captured the Eircom Premier League title for the first time.

And in motorsport, Shaun Gallagher won the Rookie of the Year title in the World Rally Championship.

The RTÉ/The Irish Sports Council's Hall of Fame Award will also be presented to a very deserving Irish sporting veteran on the night.

The RTÉ Sports Awards 2007 in association with The Irish Sports Council: Friday, 21 December on RTÉ One and RTÉ.ie (RoI only) at 9.35pm
