Women's rowing pair finish eighth at World Championships

Leonora Kennedy and Lisa Dilleen finished second in the B final of the women’s pair at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam.

Second place left Kennedy and Dilleen in eighth place overall in the event.

The Irish pair were in a battle with Russia for first place with Kennedy and Dilleen starting in lane two and the Russians in lane one.

The Russians had a slight lead in the early stages but Ireland closed the gap down to 0.77secs at the last 500m mark but the Russians responded and pulled away in the closing stages to win by just over three seconds.
