Freddie Head is convinced Moonlight Cloud can provide him with yet another triumph in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday.

The Frenchman knows what it takes to be successful in this race, having won it twice as a jockey on Miesque in 1987 and 1988 and three times as a trainer with Goldikova in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

And in Moonlight Cloud he feels he has another horse that fits the bill.

Head believes she can turn the tables on ante-post favourite Excelebration, who had her a length and three-quarters back in fourth when winning the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville in August.

"We met Excelebration once before and we were unlucky," said Head after having supervised a routine canter by the four-year-old filly on Wednesday.

"I still think we should have won that day. I think the Santa Anita course will favour me and that we are the ones to beat."

However, Excelebration's trainer Aidan O'Brien is also bullish about the prospects of the four-year-old colt, who was so impressive when winning the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot recently.

The Ballydoyle handler said: "Excelebration oozes class and the piece of work he did before Ascot was really something special.

"I don't think we've backed him up this quickly before, but he seems to be where we want him to be.

"He was obviously a very good horse before he came to us and it took us time to find the best way to ride him.

"We thought he might go a mile and a quarter, but he showed us so much speed - that it is his biggest weapon.

"He has plenty of form on the fast ground he will encounter on Saturday."
