Land'N Stars has missed the cut for Saturday's BMW Caulfield Cup in Australia.

Trainer Jamie Poulton had been hoping to run his Emirates Melbourne Cup contender in the 12-furlong event as a prep for the big race on November 7.

However, after finishing an equal 17th in the elimination order along with Activation and Pop Rock, the committee of the Melbourne Racing Club decided the latter two should complete the 18-runner field.

Land'N Stars is now first reserve for the Group One race, which also features Godolphin's Cup contender Imperial Stride, but Poulton is planning to head for the Geelong Cup instead.

He said: 'He didn't make the cut for the race so we are going to go to Geelong instead. Nick Ryan will ride him. He's been to work him and rode him in a gallop with Geordieland the other day. 'We were very pleased with him and both horses worked well.'

The PETstock Geelong Cup, a Group Three event over 12 furlongs, will be run next Wednesday and it is a race Dermot Weld's Media Puzzle won before going on to glory in the Melbourne Cup in 2002.
