Michael Winters’ Missunited has been retired from racing after her valiant winning effort in the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The seven-year-old mare pulled up lame after the race and proved to have strained a suspensory ligament. She will now be retired to her trainer’s farm in Co Cork.

Missunited won 12 races on the Flat and under NH rules, including the Galway Plate, a year to the day before her Goodwood victory.

Jim Crowley was aboard Missunited for the winning finale. Always up with the pace set by Nymphea, the combination set sail for home three furlongs out.

The challengers came thick and fast in the closing stages but Missunited would not be denied and kept on with gritty determination to win by half a length from Arabian Comet, with Waila just a head away.
