A maximum field of 20 has been declared for Saturday's 55th John Smith's Cup at York with Hi There and Salutation the two reserves.

Heading up the weights is the Cambridgeshire winner Educate followed by Roger Varian's Farraaj who will start widest of all after being drawn in stall 22.

The likes of Clever Cookie, Bold Sniper and Nabucco have all been declared.

Saeed bin Suroor has two chances with Kieren Fallon riding Tarikhi while Saxo Jack also represents Godolphin.

David O'Meara also has more than one runner. Chancery appears his main hope with Danny Tudhope on board while Sam James takes 3lb off Two For Two and Martin Dwyer rides Ingleby Angel.

Tres Coronas, John Quinn's Tahira and the William Haggas-trained Queensbury Rules are also in the ultra-competitive field.

Robert Cowell's Zain Eagle was the last horse to make the field.

If there are any non-runners before 9am on Friday, Hi There and Salutation may still get to take their chances.
