Al Thakhira faces 12 rivals as she bids to book her Classic place at Newmarket with a big run in the Fred Darling Stakes, run as the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, at Newbury on Saturday.

Marco Botti's charge had looked a serious contender for the Qipco 1000 Guineas when winning the Rockfel Stakes in October, but she ended the campaign on a low when tailed off last on fast ground in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf at Santa Anita three weeks later.

A quality field includes Frankel's half-sister Joyeuse, a Listed winner for Jane Cecil and sixth in the Cheveley Park Stakes.

This race looks to have plenty of strength in depth with Charles Hills saddling two promising types in Coral Mist and Dutch Romance.

The rest of the field comprises of Alys Love, Beldale Memory, Dutch Courage, J Wonder, Lady Lara, Manderlay, Stealth Missile and Valonia.
