Noel Fehily will partner Silviniaco Conti when he aims to secure back-to-back victories in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
Ruby Walsh has ridden the Paul Nicholls-trained seven-year-old on all but one of his 10 appearances over fences, including when running out a hugely-impressive winner of this Grade One prize 12 months ago.
However, with Walsh no longer attached to the Nicholls yard and current stable jockey Daryl Jacob set to be in action at Ascot, Fehily will come in for the plum ride on Merseyside this weekend.
Nicholls could be double-handed in the Betfair Chase, with Sam Twiston-Davies in line to keep the ride on Tidal Bay having guided him to victory over hurdles at Wetherby recently.
Nicholls said in his Betfair column: "Noel Fehily will ride Silviniaco Conti in the Betfair Chase at Haydock - and Sam Twiston-Davies is a possible for Tidal Bay in the same race - while Daryl Jacob will go to Ascot to ride Zarkandar and Al Ferof.
"Nothing should be read into the fact that Noel rides what was probably our stable star last season. He has ridden Conti before, in fact when winning on him in the two-and-a-half-mile hurdle at Ascot three years ago that Zarkandar goes for on Saturday, as well as a Persian War.
"It simply makes sense for our number one jockey to go to Ascot to ride two of our best horses in Zarkandar - who Daryl obviously knows so well having won on him four times, including the Triumph - and Al Ferof, who he has ridden a lot at home in his comeback from injury."
