John Oxx believes Saddler's Rock is capable of running another big race in the Gold Cup especially if things go his way at Royal Ascot on Thursday.
The Currabeg trainer is hoping first of all that the weather is kind in the build-up and that it is plenty of pace in the race itself over two and a half miles.
That was not the case last summer when the stayers' championship was not run to suit yet Saddler's Rock was only beaten three-quarters of a length in third place behind Colour Vision.
Oxx is not concerned that the five-year-old has not seen racecourse action since the Dubai Gold Cup in March when he was only seventh after his saddle slipped.
"He hasn't run since Dubai, but he had a nice springtime out there. He's in good shape and fresh and well so we hope he gets good fast ground and we don't get too much rain," he said.
"He just been ticking over and working very well. He looks great and we're hoping he can run as well as he did last year.
"The race didn't go to suit him last year but hopefully things can work out better this year and he certainly seems in good enough form to run very well."
