Harbinger future up in the air

Connections of Harbinger are in no rush to decide on the future of the brilliant colt, who was retired from racing last Monday.

The four-year-old was a devastating 11-length winner of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on his latest appearance, but that turned out to be his last race after he fractured a leg on the gallops.

The son of Dansili is recovering well and the Highclere Thoroughbred racing team must now decide where he will head to take up a stallion career.

Higchlere racing manager Harry Herbert told At The Races: 'It's an ongoing process and there is an awful lot of interest in the horse.

'That is all being dissected and carefully worked out at the moment and all will be revealed eventually. These things take time and the horse is a sought-after item. He's a pretty amazing racehorse.

'When a horse is sold as a stallion it's all a question of whether the team can be involved or not. Those are ongoing discussion and John Warren (Highclere director) has to weigh up all the options available.

'The horse is still with the vets and is due to come out either this weekend or next week.

They're really pleased with him and he's been a model patient. From that perspective, it's really good news.'
