Gordon Elliott is making sure Silver Birch has plenty of time for the Aintree magic to rub off as he tries to regain his Grand National title.

After winning the great race in 2007, Elliott's horse has made only three appearances, winning his first point-to-point before pulling-up in another three weeks later. He then finished down the field in a handicap hurdle.

He will be reunited with Robbie Power for the first time since the National on Saturday and his trainer is optimistic the 12-year-old is turning the corner.

'We have a runner in the Fox Hunters' so they are both going over tonight,' Elliott said on Tuesday.

'I do feel the horse has really started to come into form. He can be a bit clever at home so we have been going to a few different places to work him, like down to the beach.

'Hopefully the Aintree fences will bring him to life so he can give a good account of himself. Realistically, if he can finish in the first six or seven and come back safely, we'll be delighted. Robbie Power will ride.'

Silver Birch is generally available at 50-1 for the John Smith's-sponsored event.
