Railings claims Caulfield Cup

British raiders Carte Diamond and Razkalla were out of luck in the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup in Australia.

Carte Diamond, trained by Brian Ellison, finished ninth of the 20 runners in the prestigious mile and a half contest while Godolphin representative Razkalla was 16th.

The race went to Railings, trained by John Hawkes and ridden by Greg Childs, who was held up before flying home late to land the spoils from Japanese horse Eye Popper, with Singapore International Cup winner Mummify back in third.

"It's a race I've always wanted to win for a long time," Hawkes told Australian television station Channel Seven. "Everything worked out really well for him, he had a lovely run in the race."

The race is often used as a warm-up for the Emirates Melbourne Cup in a little over two weeks time, although Hawkes was unsure as to whether Railings would line up.

He added: "We'll see how he pulls up tomorrow, we don't want to get carried away. A lot can happen in two weeks."
