Dermot Weld has expressed his delight at the progress of Free Eagle as the twice-raced colt prepares for a return to the track later .

The son of High Chaparral was a spectacular winner of his maiden at Leopardstown in August last year but has not run since being beaten by Australia when favourite for a Group Three back at the Foxrock venue the following month.

Owned by Moyglare Stud, the three-year-old holds two entries on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown in September, including the Qipco-sponsored Irish Champion Stakes.

Weld said: "He's coming on very, very nicely. I'm very pleased with his progress in every way. Mentally and physically I'm delighted with him.

"He's in full work and doing everything right. We won't commit to any plans yet and I'll know more next week."
