Niall 'Slippers' Madden was taken to hospital with a broken leg after a crunching fall at Clonmel.

The rider was hurt when Pipe Down, trained by his father Niall, fell in the Go Racing In The South East '5 For 50' Handicap Chase.

The fence was bypassed as Madden received treatment before being taken hospital locally for further assessment.

Madden has only returned to action in recent days following a similar injury.

Dr Bernard Healy said: "He has a confirmed broken left leg. It is possible he will be transferred to Waterford hospital for further orthopaedic care."
