Trainer Jonjo O'Neill is leaning towards running Taquin Du Seuil in the JLT Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
The seven-year-old has won three of his five races over fences but was found wanting when dropped in trip in the two-mile Henry VIII Novices' Stakes at Sandown in early December.
Taquin Du Seuil went down narrowly to Oscar Whisky at Cheltenham in the Dipper Novices' Chase on New Year's Day before winning an uncompetitive race at Haydock after his main market rival pulled up.
He still holds an entry in the RSA Chase but O'Neill feels that would be a big ask over the three-mile trip for the first time.
"It's not been finally decided yet, but if it was left to me it would be the JLT," said the Jackdaws Castle handler.
"We think he'd get three miles but it would be very hard to run him over it first time when you're still a bit in the dark about it.
"We were going to go for the Scilly Isles (Sandown) after he'd won at Haydock, just to get a bit more experience into him, but it looked a very good decision to give that a miss as the ground was desperate that day."
