Dundalk preview

Mick Halford landed a double at Dundalk last week and one of his winners, Slipper Orchid, returns to the all-weather venue for Friday's opening Irish News Red Hand Top Tips Rated Race at 5.50pm.

The filly is entitled to come on from that reappearance and is favoured by the conditions, with fellow last-start scorers Indian Landing and He's Got Rhythm the biggest threats to her follow-up bid.

Halford will also harbour high hopes for Lonan in the Irish News Neville Ring Punters Guide Rated Race.

Having just his second start at the age of four earlier in the month, he broke through by showing excellent resolution in the closing stages and will be hard to keep out over the same course and distance.

His stable companion Cebuano caught the eye on his return from a break last week and will be on plenty of shortlists for the Irish News Hitting The Target Handicap.

He may have most to fear from within his yard, because Paddy The Celeb rounded off his last campaign with a couple of good efforts at this circuit, while little separated Gretzky and Denny Crane last time and both have to enter the equation as well.

Ted Walsh has bigger fish to fry with Aintree looming, but will be hoping his Irish News Boot Room Handicap candidate Toberton can avenge his defeat at the hands of Relay, although the winner himself has ground to make up on Sharjah, Desiderata, Gmac and Mississippi John from a subsequent outing.

Pearl Of Africa kept decent company as a juvenile and just about sets the standard in the Irish News Against The Breeze Median Auction Maiden.

Stoichkhov tries to supplement a recent course and distance triumph in division one of the Irish News The Last Line Handicap, and Esytopolishadimond does the same in the second instalment.
