Gordon Elliott's Grade One-winning chaser Jessies Dream has suffered a fatal injury on the gallops this morning.
Sidelined by injury since being so narrowly denied in the 2011 RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, the 10-year-old was on the comeback trail and being prepared for a tilt at the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree.
Elliott said: "The poor horse has never really had a proper run at it.
"He's been plagued with injuries, but we were looking forward to running him in a point-to-point next Saturday and then hopefully he'd have been going to Aintree.
"Unfortunately he broke a hind leg up high behind this morning and I just feel so sad for everyone in the yard and especially David Johnson (owner), who was good enough to send the horse to us in the first place.
"He was a Grade One winner and just got touched off in the RSA.
"It's devastating for everyone connected with the horse."
