Tom Doyle believes Follow The Plan has the class to be competitive off top-weight in Galway Plate on Wednesday.

Oliver McKiernan's three-time Grade One winner ended the last National Hunt season with a flourish, winning the Betfred Bowl at Aintree before finishing second to China Rock when defending his crown in the Punchestown Gold Cup.

He will have to concede upwards of 7lb to each of his opponents as he drops back into handicap company for the big race on Wednesday, but his rider is confident of a bold show.

"I went and had a sit on him on Tuesday and he seems in very good order," said Doyle.

"He obviously has plenty of weight, but he has top-weight for a reason and I'd say there hasn't ever been a horse as good as him run in the race before.

"I'd like a bit of nice ground for him ideally, but he does handle softer ground better than most horses as well, so I'm sure it will be fine either way."
