Tom Taaffe's Knocklayde Vic was a costly failure at Limerick last time but made amends in the Urlingford Maiden Hurdle.

The 5-2 chance and the front-running Beckwith stole a march on their rivals approaching the turn and after taking it up on the run to the last, Adrian Joyce drove the winner out to beat the staying-on Goidelic by a length and three-quarters.

The application of blinkers worked the oracle for Clarkey (6-1), who got off the mark in the Holy Cross Maiden Hurdle.

The Christy Roche-trained eight-year-old had finished second no less than six times prior to this, but he kicked on straightening up and made no mistake for a two-and-a-half-length verdict over Alexander Seaview.

Roche had to settle for second when Tooman Lane found the burden of top-weight beyond him in the Clonoulty Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old actually headed long-time leader Annual Report (14-1) after two out, but his rival battled back admirably under 'Slippers' Madden to gain the spoils by two and a half lengths.

Merveilles ran out a fortunate winner of the Templemore Beginners Chase.

Jessica Harrington's 14-1 shot appeared booked for second with Melon Delta travelling strongly at the last, but that one took a crashing fall and Merveilles seized the opportunity to beat Earth Magic, who found the trip too short, by a length and a quarter.

Shake The Bottle (9-1) fared best in a duel with Got The Urge to take the Cashel Beginners Chase.

The pair leapt the last couple of obstacles in unison, but Shake The Bottle found more when asked for extra by 3lb claimer Martin Ferris and triumphed by a length and three-quarters.

Russian Buck jumped the final fence in second in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase, but he really found his stride on landing and caught Caman Swinger to secure a three-and-a-half-length success.
